Different Uses of the Verb Get

Get has the following basic meanings:

1 – obtain/get

2 – receive/obtain

3 – become

4 – move/arrive somewhere

5 – bring something to a place/fetch

6 – understand

7 – persuade somebody to do something

8 – travel by / catch

Look at some examples from BBC website:

“Up to six million UK holidaymakers will get extra protection from 30 April if an operator collapses.” (get = receive)

“The 30 year-old whistler, who has been a Fifa official since 2010, said: “The players are getting fitter, faster and stronger and therefore the game develops at quite a pace now.” (get = become)
